Vienna-based miss lillys hats founder Niki Osl has been wearing flowers in her hair before flower crowns became a Coachella sensation and fashion blogs became overrun with tutorials on how to make them. But DIY-ing your way to the heights of her floral compositions is anything but an easy feat. With a special mix of vintage charm and an artist's sense of color, Niki's hats and accessories stand out among a sea of similar iterations.
Born and raised in Vienna with a costume jewelry designer as mother, Niki grew up surrounded by vintage bits and bobs and even began collecting vintage hats at an early age.
"There was always a flair of yesteryear at home and that affects me still," she says about how her upbringing influences her work today. "Pieces from another time have soul, and you don´t know what they have seen in these many years. It‘s great to see old flowers blossom out again!"
After working as an art director in an agency and continually exploring creative outlets such as painting and writing, she found her medium when she started making head pieces for her favorite dresses because she couldn't find high quality floral accessories. Soon, designers like Lena Hoschek started paying attention, and miss lillys hats--named after her cat Miss Lilly--was born. Fittingly, Niki also donates a portion from every sale from miss lillys hats to animal protection organizations, bringing her fans (Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift included!) and cats around the world her very special adaptation of flower power.
